Beat Insomnia - Get a Great Night's Sleep

If you are out of sorts from lack of sleep, you are not the only one. More than 25 percent of all adults in the United States has insomnia. This condition is a sleep problem in which people cannot fall asleep after lying in bed for 20 minutes. Others fall asleep quickly, but awaken and lay awake for the rest of the night. Many sufferers awaken frequently throughout the night, or do not feel rested even when they have slept for many hours.

While this sleep disturbance can be worrisome and irritating, severe insomnia can become quite dangerous. People who have been without sleep for 24 hours have the same difficulties with motor skills and muscular coordination as individuals have drunk more than the legal limit before driving. Indeed, not sleeping for an entire night is as unsafe as driving while intoxicated!

Sleeplessness is caused by numerous factors, such as drugs, stress, and poor sleeping habits. Medications such as prednisone or theophylline can cause insomnia. Consult the physician who prescribed the medication concerning whether a different medicine can be substituted.
